Our Pottery - Inspired ItalianRenaissance Reflected on Raffaellesco and Ricco
The paintings of 16th century artist Raphael are distinguished for their perfection and grace. His frescos grace the walls of the Logge Vatican in Rome, and his motifs inspire our patterns Raffaellesco and Ricco. During the Renaissance, artisans would reproduce themes and images from the grand masters and paint them on pottery. On our Raffaellesco pieces, you'll find a dragon pattern taken from details of 16th century paintings. The dragon pattern is a popular traditional design from Deruta located in the Italian province of Umbria. The potent dragon imagery reflects the Italian myth of a friendly deity that offered strong winds for safe travel for seagoing merchants. You'll note how the wind of this powerful dragon often transforms on the pieces from air to brilliantly colored floral images. The Ricco patterns are inspired by artists Raphael and Perugino and are ideally matched to Rafaellesco. They feature scrolling and stylized fleur-de-lis and other cascading flora. There are several variations of this pattern, "Ricco", "Ricco Blue" and "Verde," which means green, which can all be mixed and matched for a vibrant table setting. Our unique pieces marry the beauty and form of the masters with useful function. Much of our pottery is dishwasher safe and meets FDA standards. However, we don't recommend them for microwaves. We hope you enjoy these stunning patterns inspired by some of Italy's greatest artistic masters. Browse Raffaellesco and Ricco patterns and designs now. Read more Inspired Italian Stories.
